for ADVOCACY GROUPS ...

Giving Citizens the Power to Make a Real Difference

At the heart of Advocates' success is the powerful presence of citizens in action. From the beginning, Advocates has been about working together in unique and unusual - and highly effective - coalitions.

Nationally, Advocates has teamed up with Mothers Against Drunk Driving, the American College of Emergency Physicians, the Consumer Federation of America, and the Center for Auto Safety, among others. Beyond the traditional partners, Advocates has recruited and formed alliances with more than 250 wide-ranging organizations, many that have never worked on highway safety issues before but are concerned about public health and injury prevention.

The insurance and consumer leaders who created and developed Advocates recognized the need to formalize their relationship and to work past differences in other areas to achieve greater advancement in highway and auto safety, both in Washington D.C. and in the states.

Through Advocates, state and local groups can have a voice in Congress. Conversely, national groups can influence state legislative activity.

Advocates has also formed permanent state Advocates groups in New York and California that mirror the national organization's cooperative relationship between the property and casualty industry and the consumer and safety communities.
