Distracted Driving
Advocates supports bills that will increase the number of states with anti-phone use laws to ultimately reduce the number of deaths and injuries associated with distracted driving. Legislation introduced in the previous Congress by Senator John Rockefeller and Representative Eliot Engel, the Distracted Driving Prevention Act, would provide grants to states that enact laws that prohibit and impose fines for texting or handheld cellphone use while driving. This legislation was reintroduced in the current Congress in the House as H.R.1772.
