Transportation by intercity motorcoach is the fastest growing mode of passenger transportation. Legislation directing actions by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to improve the crashworthiness and operations safety of motorcoaches is currently pending in Congress. Advocates strongly supports the Motorcoach Enhanced Safety Act (MESA), S. 453, sponsored in the Senate by Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) and Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX), and a companion House measure, H.R. 873, sponsored by Rep. John Lewis (D-GA).
