for SURVIVORS ...

Turning Tragedy into Public Policy Triumph

Ask a friend, co-worker or neighbor - the odds are tragically high that they or a loved one have been invovled in a life-threatening auto crash.

In fact, motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for Americans ages 1 to 34. And no matter where you live, what your politics are, your age or your ethnic heritage - every American family faces the same risks.

Together, the thousands of deaths and millions of injuries each year define a terrible public health epidemic. But it is the individual stories that provide the most compelling reasons for tougher and more effective highway safety laws and programs. And there are no more determined or more credible advocates for change than those who have survived a highway tragedy or lost a loved one in a crash that could have been prevented.

Advocates makes sure those killed or injured in crashes don't become cold faceless statistics by bringing their stories - one by one - to the attention of policy makers, legislators and the media. Advocates' campaigns, such as "Kids Cars N' Crashes" help survivors deal with tragedy and turn it into a triumph.

And Advocates' "Saved by the Air Bag" Campaign illustrates the positive benefits of important safety advances.
